Short history

 

     During the International Eucharistic Congress celebrated in Barcelona, in 1952, arose the project to unite the diverse associations of adorers through the creation of an International Council.

 

This initiative was successively strengthened during the International Eucharistic Congress of Munich that it was held in 1960.

 

The day 10 th of October of 1962, eve of the solemn opening of the Second Vatican Council, Mr. Pierre Regnier, then president of the Parisian Nocturnal Adoration, accepted the initiative of the Venerable Arch Confraternity of Nocturnal Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and convoked an international meeting in Rome. That meeting marked the beginning of the World Federation of Nocturnal Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

 

As a lasting memory of the Great Jubilee of the year 2000, dedicated by the Holy Father John Paul II to the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharistic which was celebrated in Rome in the General Meeting of the Federation, there was considered opportune to present to the Holy See the idea of developing the space of the Federation with views to the constitution of a great Eucharistic Grouping of the World Character. For managing this aim, it is necessary to change the denomination of the Federation and adapting his Estatutes.

 

In the course of year 2003, being President Mr. Rafael Báez Sleeves and Ecclesiastical Assistant the Reverend Mr. Salvador Muñoz Churches, remembers the variation the denomination that will happen to be called World Federation of Nocturnal Adoration to Transubstantiated Jesus and other Eucharistic Works, elevating instance to the Pontifical Council for the Laics and asking for the canonical erection of this one, as well as the approval of its Statutes.

 

On December of 2003, the Pontifical Council for the Laics decrees:

 

1) The erection of the World Federation of the Nocturnal Adoration to Transubstantiated Jesus and other Eucharistic Works, with juridical public personality.

 

2) The approval of the Bylaws of the federation, due authenticated by the Dicaster for a period ad experimentum of five years.

Since its beginnings, the Federation has impelled the creation of new adoration associations, has fomented the participation in national and international Eucharistic Congresses, has promoted pilgrimages to Sanctuaries, as well as fulfilling other works which contribute to the edification of the People of God.

 

In the General Assembly celebrated in the city of Guadalajara ( Mexico ) in 2004, into the course of the International Eucharistic Congress, Mr. Eduardo Moreno Gomez is named President, designating Ecclesiastic Assistant the Ilme. Mr. Juan Miguel Ferrer Grenesche, then General Vicar of Toledo.

 

In the relations that have stayed during these years with the different associations and ecclesial organisms, it has been gotten to state that the denomination of the Federation takes to the error of the supremacy of the Nocturnal Adoration on the rest of the Eucharistic Associations.

 

In view of it, and with the purpose of adapting the Federation to its authentic aims, the agreement was taken to propose to the General Assembly the change of denomination.

 

In the General Assembly celebrated in the city of Québec in 2008 in the course of the International Eucharistic Congress, after the re-election as President of Mr. Eduardo Moreno Gomez the agreement was unanimously taken the variation of its denomination that will happen to be called, previous authorization of the Pontifical Council for the Laics, World Federation of the Eucharistic Works of the Church.

 

The Ilme. Mr. Juan Miguel Ferrer Grenesche was ratified as Ecclesiastic Assistant of the Federation and at the moment he holds the position of Undersecretary of the Congregation for the divine cult and disciplines of the Sacraments.

 

The 22 nd of January of 2009 the Pontifical Council of the Laity decrees:

 

1) The confirmation of the erection of the Worldwide Federation of Nocturnal Adoration of the Sacramental Jesus and other Eucharistic Works, with public juridical status, which henceforth will be denominated as The Worldwide Federation of Eucharistic Works of the Church.

 

2) The definitive approval of the Federation's Statutes, duly authenticated by the Department.
